The Girl Who Played with Fire by Stieg Larsson
Another great novel. It's much too bad that Stieg Larsson died shortly after delivering the 3 novels in this series - I think he could have been a fantastic writer!
This was the second book in the series, and it was just as good as the first. It kept you guessing until the end, I thought.
Read it, you'll like it.

Books of 2011 - #17-21
Rapture In Death by JD Robb
Yet another classic JD Robb. If you haven't read her books, pick them up and read them! I'm sure I've read this one before, but I loved it all over again. Only took me a day and a half to read!
Silent Night by various authors:
A Berry Merry Christmas by Claire Cross,
The Unexpected Gift by Dee Holmes,
Christmas Promises by Susan Plunkett &
Midnight In Death by JD Robb
A great collection of books. Probably not the best time of year to be reading Christmas books, but whatever. My mom always saves a Christmas series for December, but I like Christmas all year long. Good books!

Books of 2011 - #15 & #16
Blood Sins & Blood Ties by Kay Hooper
Both of these books are really good! More in the Bishop/Special Crimes Unit series, and they are good. And addicting! I read both of these books in a week, which isn't typical for me these days. Basically, the Bishop series is about a group of FBI agents who have supernatural powers that help them solve crimes. Very good! I've read quite a few of these books, and I would keep reading more of them!

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson
What an amazing book! I had a bit of a tough time getting into the book because it took me quite a while to see where everything fit together, but once it did, it was nearly impossible to put down! It's one of those rare books where I can't figure out what's happening until it actually happens. I could not solve this mystery, but once it was revealed, it was so obvious. But I like that. I'd rather have it be hard to figure out. I can't wait to read the other books!

Lucky number 13!
Committed by Elizabeth Gilbert (same author of "Eat Pray Love")
I love love love this book! I think that Elizabeth Gilbert is now one of my favourite authors. In this book, the follow up to "Eat Pray Love" she talks about her struggle with marriage, with the idea of it, the rules of it, when she and her lover Felipe are forced to marry so that he can live in the US. They are stopped at a border flying into the US where Felipe is detained and they must start the immigration process for him to even be allowed back into the country. They travel around southeast Asia, and she researches marriage to find something that would suit them. You definitely learn a lot about the history of marriage, and about some of the traditions across the globe. I think that's one of the things that I find fascinating about Elizabeth Gilbert's writing - you learn a lot about topics that you wouldn't normally research. Like, I would have never thought to research marriage before I got married - I knew it was right for me, and that's it. But, in reading her book, I see now that my marriage is exactly what I need, but that the definition of marriage is different for everyone. It's just amazing. Love love love love love. That's really the review of this book. LOVE.

The Clan of the Cave Bear - Jean M. Auel
Ok, this book is super old, like published in 1980, which is 6 years before I was born. My mom had tried to read it when it came out, and was horribly bored with it. Then this winter my grandparents started reading the books, and I got intrigued. The verdict: I LOVE THIS BOOK! It's so cool. Basically, it's set before one of the ice ages, in a tribe (the clan of the cave bear) of what I can assume are Neanderthals. It's so cool (I won't give any of it away like my grandma did!) and I definitely think that if you have any interest in history, this book is something you should read. I love it. Love it. Love it. Love it. The way it's written is so plausible too! You can almost believe that this is exactly how they lived. Love it. 5 stars!

Winter Garden by Kristin Hannah
My mom gave me this book, and I have to say, I was hesitant to read it. But, it turned out to be fantastic. Somewhat of a love story, but more of a life story of a woman who went through great tragedy during WWII in Russia. It's so addictive that you will not want to put it down! I promise!

Sense of Evil by Kay Hooper
I've definitely discovered an author that I love. Her books are realistic, if you can call books about psychics working for the FBI realistic. It makes you believe that it could happen. And it's interesting. This one actually surprised me. I can usually figure out who the bad guy is right away, but this time was hard. I couldn't figure it out at all! Every time I thought I had figured it out, it proved to be wrong! I really liked this book, and I hope to read a lot more of Kay Hooper's books.

From the Heart - Nora Roberts
Well, in typical Nora Roberts fashion, this one was wonderfully romantic. It's actually 3 of her older books - Tonight and Always, A Matter of Choice and Endings and Beginnings. All three make you believe in romance. Very good read, if I do say so myself! Can't believe I'm already through my ninth book so far this year!

Hard Truth by Mariah Stewart
Pretty interesting book. Another one from my friend Trish. Seems to me that this one is part of a series, and I am interested in reading more. It start out really slow, but it was interesting. You could definitely tell who was the killer about 3/4 of the way through, but I was unsure right up until the end. Read it if you like a but of a thriller, but more of a calm thriller, if you can understand that!

Secret Daughter by Shilpi Somaya Gowda
What a great book! It's very moving, and super easy to read. It chronicles a few people's lives that are intertwined - a mother, daughter, and her adopted mother. It takes place mostly in India, Bombay to be specific. I love that this book lets us in a bit on what the culture is like, and really, it tells of what life is like for most Indians, in a mild way. I'm sure it's much worse than what is in this book. My mom bought me this for Christmas, and I'm glad she did! So good!

Another book done! Phew.
Black Magic by Cherry Adair
Another book loaned to me by Trish. I would never think about buying something like this on my own, but I really liked it. Full or wizards and magic but nothing like Harry Potter or anything. It's a good book that keeps you guessing. Recommended if you need something to read that you just want to get lost in for a little while!

Books of 2011 - #3
Yup, finished another book! I had about 3 on the go, so it was bound to happen.
Last Words: A Memoir by George Carlin
I think that I may read too fast to have fully understood the humour of this book. It kind of went right over my head for the most part. I love autobiographies. I find them to be the most truthful, and this one was no exception. I had no idea that his life was as fucked up as it was. He was actually an amazing man - very smart. Just misguided, I think. He went through the 60s and 70s with the help of a lot of drugs. A good read, if you have any interest in random people's lives.

Books of 2011 - #2 && More Crochet Photos!
Trouble Becomes Her by Laura Van Wormer
A really good book...up until the end. It had suspense, and awesome story line, and of course some romance. But then it just ended. Maybe I missed something in the end, but I don't know. It seemed to just end. I really liked it anyways. It had all the things I love about books. And, it was really easy to understand. No complications in the story, just facts, black and white. I'd recommend it to be read! I borrowed it - along with a giant bag-ful - from my friend Trish. It's only the third book I've gotten through, and I have lots more to go!
And now for some crochet photos. I made a few more squares on the weekend to go with the blue & yellow one. Check em out!

For this one I used pick & yellow and it looks like the coolest orange colour!
And this one is awesome pink & blue. Love it! I ran out of pink finishing this one, and thought, no biggie, I'll just go and buy some more. I forgot that our WalMart doesn't like to stock anything that a person actually needs! So, I bought purple to see how it works! If it doesn't work, I might go and buy green. But, I have a few more blue & yellow squares to do, so I won't worry about the other colour for a while. I have 4 of 12 squares already done. Shouldn't be too bad!
Have a good day all! I need to get my act together and get into the shower or I'm going to be late for work!

Books of 2011 - #1
I started writing a series of Facebook notes like this last year, but I really only made it to July or so. This year I want to chronicle the books I've read completely. Here goes the first one! I finished this one last night in the bath!
Mini Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella
I've read almost all of Sophie Kinsella's books - and have loved them all! This one was no different. I love following the mad ideas she has for the life of "Rebecca Brandon (nee Bloomwood)." There is no end to the silly things happening. And really, as a shopaholic myself, I like to imagine myself buying all the stuff she buys, LOL! I think it's pretty funny now that she has a child. Makes the story that much more silly. But totally great. I recommend this book if you want to read something funny. You definitely don't need to read any of the other books, but I recommend that you do!
