Top News Today

It's been a long time since I've watched the news or read it. Usually, I watch Global BC, and read www.cbc.ca/news but I haven't been for a while. Not sure why, but now I'm reading it and I feel very behind.

So, since I feel so far behind, quite a few things caught my eye this morning:

-The town of Smithers in northwest BC has had some residents evacuated because of flood risk, along with Cranbrook, Merritt and Cache Creek. Mother Natures is sure messing with us this year. First the Slave Lake fire, now flooding? We're in for one hell of a year.

-The Canadian troops in Libya? When did that happen? I am out of the loop if it happened in March and I didn't know about it. I didn't even know there was a G8 summit going on in France! Yup, I'm out of the loop. Personally, I wish that we didn't need to use force to solve problems, but apparently that isn't going to change anytime soon. Maybe I should jump onto the military bandwagon and start supporting my troops. I've had a hard time doing so in the past because I think a lot of the missions are senseless, but I guess they really aren't.

-A man convicted of killing women by infecting them with HIV is contesting the ruling because he thought that the jury was racist. Seriously? He infected 7 women, 2 of which died of AIDS related cancers. Personally, I think he deserves to be in jail. He knew that he had HIV and he had unprotected sex with these women without telling them. Who in their right mind would have unprotected sex with a man who has HIV? He ruined 7 people's lives, and he thinks that the ruling was too harsh because the jury was racist. Once again: Seriously??

And, while we're talking news, I forgot to mention this from Oil Wives. The Oil Wives club of Slave Lake has 25 members, and all 25 members lost their houses. It's so sad. I don't know any of the members of the club, but I feel for them. It's such a tragedy. So hard to believe.

Anyway, I should get going. Just thought I would share some thoughts from the news this morning!
